Since 2004, I have traveled to over 30 countries around the world to create my products.
Traditional clothing is full of minimalistic and functional motifs that use essential fabrics to their fullest. So today, I’m going to show you a pattern for a pair of squirrel pants that can be hand-sewn.
1.Where is it come from ?
The Lisaw are a mountain tribe with roots in Eastern Tibet, living in India, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. The Lisaw are a mountain tribe that originated in Eastern Tibet, and live in India, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. They are now scattered in different countries, but until national borders were clearly defined, mountain tribes like the Lisaw moved from place to place in the mountains while burning fields. The Lisaw are a mountain tribe that uses unisex pants for both men and women.
When I was wandering around India and Southeast Asia in 2000, I came across these pants in a village of the Lisu tribe in northern Thailand, and thought they were useful and interesting, so I decided to commercialize them. Swaraj’s squirrel pants are also used by the Japanese drumming groups Gocoo and Tawoo Taiko Dojo. When I was wandering around India and Southeast Asia in 2000, I came across these pants in a village of the Lisu tribe in northern Thailand, and thought they were useful and interesting, so I decided to commercialize them. 2.Lisaw pants Pattern structure
Procedure for cutting into parts
1Waist cloth x1
2Side cloth x2
3Gusset x1 (double the size)
4Waistband x1
Cut it into five parts like this.
You may think cutting is scary.
But if you don’t try it, you won’t be able to learn anything.
So let’s start with an affordable fabric! So it’s better to start with a good fabric the second time or later.
Steps to assemble the parts
Sew the side cloth and triangular gusset together.
You may think that the bottom of the crotch gusset has a strange triangle shape.
It’s easy!→Just make a cut at the base of the right angle.
Attach the rest of pcs.
Now all the parts are attached except for the waistband.
All that’s left to do is to close the crotch gusset and the side fabric.
and the side cloths are closed, and the pants are ready to wear.
Fasten to a triangular point
Place the folded cloth in the tanden area of your abdomen like this.
Place the folded cloth at the triangle point so that it gathers together.
Then, fold it up toward your waist and you are done.
How to attach the waistband?
Traditionally, the waistband is attached to the back of the loincloth, but you can put it anywhere you like.
You can use it as a loop if you like.
In Swaraj products, the cord is stored in a loop inside the loincloth to prevent it from sagging when you use the restroom.
4. Why Lisaw Pants have been popular for 20 years
Twenty years ago, I first encountered this shape in the Village and commercialized it.
The basic shape of the pants has always been the same, even though it has been rearranged to optimize it for the Japanese lifestyle.(In fact, Lisaw pants were made from terrycloth and velvet.)
) I thought this would be a waste of the cute and practical shape of the pants.
So, I started making them with hemp and grass-dyed cotton.
Why tradition is more sustainable than fashion
A sample of the first Lisaw pants I made about 20 years ago.
The shapes of squirrel pants, which have been created over hundreds of years in the daily lives of the people, can be used sustainably and last for a long time, unlike fashion which is designed by designers to suit the times.
Our roots are embedded in our traditional clothing.
Even though we are still stuck in Japan, DNA genome analysis proves that many of our ancestors came from Eurasia and the southern islands.
So, let’s start with a simple piece of cloth.
